The 25th International
Annual Virtual Congress
of the World Muscle Society

28th Sep – 2nd Oct 2020

Late Breaking Abstracts

Late breaking abstracts submission open: 1st August 2020
Late breaking abstracts deadline: 31st August 2020 (Midnight BST)

This aspect of the congress is specifically designed to present the most relevant, exciting, unpublished and recent news regarding every aspect of neuromuscular disorders, and this will not change for the virtual meeting. Please note this is not for ‘late submitted abstracts’ though. The successful selected abstracts are to be presented virtually as short oral presentations on the last day of the Congress (Friday 2 October 20202) and some may be displayed as digital posters in a designated area of the virtual platform.

WMS 2020 Virtual Congress Late Breaking Abstract Topics

  • New developments in congenital muscle disease
  • Gene modifiers and gene delivery in neuromuscular disorders
  • Advances in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders
  • Implications of Covid-19 for neuromuscular disease patients

Late Breaking Abstract Submission

Submission Guidelines

  • Abstracts can be submitted via the link on this webpage after 1st August 2020 and no later than 31st August 2020 (Midnight BST). No registration code is required.
  • The presenting author must be registered for the congress in order to be able to submit an abstract. Only the presenting author can be the submitter of an abstract. An abstract submitted by someone who is not the presenter will be refused.
  • Abstracts cannot be submitted by email, fax or hard copy.
  • Abstracts must be written in English.
  • Maximum 250 words (excluding title and contact information on authors).
  • There is a restriction of 20 co-authors for each abstract. If more co-authors have contributed, these should be summarily stated as Study Group and can later be displayed on the poster or appropriately be acknowledged during an oral.
  • References and credits are not to be included in the abstract, nor subheadings or keywords. Note that all subheadings in abstracts automatically will be removed by the programme committee.
  • It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract; if accepted any errors in spelling, grammar, or scientific fact will be reproduced as typed by the author.
  • The submitter will receive all correspondence concerning the abstract including acknowledgement of receipt of the submission and is responsible for informing co-authors of the status of the abstract.
  • In cases where the abstract is NOT accepted, participants will be contacted promptly. Delegates will have the opportunity to attend the virtual congress or cancel their registration.
  • The Programme Committee reserves the right to shorten the abstract title to allow its publication in the Conference Programme and edit the content to remove acknowledgements and misspellings identified by the Programme Committee.
  • To avoid repetition, it is WMS policy not to select late breaking abstracts from industry sponsors who also have a symposium on the same topic.
  • The programme committee will reach a decision by the beginning of September. The submitters of accepted abstracts will be notified by email soon afterwards.
  • Accepted abstracts, once notified will need to upload their e-poster or book a recording session for an oral presentation with the technical team by 10th September 2020. If you will not be available between the 4th and 10th September 2020 please do not submit a late breaking abstract.
  • Accepted Late Breaking Abstracts will be displayed in an unindexed format as one long PDF file on the Neuromuscular Disorders Journal website in time for the WMS 2020 Virtual Congress.
The committee felt some submitted abstracts didn't meet the criteria but would have been more suitable for the general abstract submission, which closed on 2nd April 2020. Because of the nature of a virtual congress we are able to display more posters on the platform this year so some contributions have been selected as a Late Submitted Abstract E-Poster Presentation. Late Submitted Abstracts will be displayed as an e-poster on the virtual congress platform but not in the journal.

If you have any question regarding the submission of late breaking abstracts please contact Clare Beach, WMS Secretariat - office@worldmusclesociety.org
