Berlin, the capital, is one of 16 states in Germany. With about 3.5 million people it is its largest city. Located in the beautiful region of Berlin-Brandenburg, this city has a remarkable history and was divided into East Berlin and West Berlin during the Cold War. Today, Berlin hosts three well reputated universities, one of the best philharmonic orchestras worldwide and three opera houses. A large diversity of museums and one of Europe´s largest university hospitals, the Charité. Berlin is also known for being a very important center of scientific research, with prestigious institutes and research organisations, such as the Max-Planck-Institute, the ‘Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft’ and the ‘Leibniz-Gemeinschaft’. Berlin attracts especially young and creative people from all over the world, offering a high quality of life, a fascinating cultural scene and interesting career opportunities.

The Museum Island: located in the heart of of the city the museum island is one of the places you should not miss to visit in Berlin. Since 1999 this architectural and cultural ensemble is considered part of the UNESCO world heritage. On the museum island you can visit five of Berlins more interesting museums, such as Pergamonmuseum, Bode-Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgallerie and Altes Museum.

  • Pergamonmuseum: this museum hosts a unique collection of classical antiquies.

  • Neues Museum: The building hosts the Egyptian Museum and Papyrus Collection and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History, together with artefacts from the Collection of Classical Antiquities.

The German Bundestag and its dome: From the Dome Terrace you have a wonderful view on Berlin. Free entrance, mandatory online registration.

The Berlin Cathedral: The Cathedral of Berlin is the largest church in the city. Beneath wonderful fresques you may also admire the impressive Sauer organ, with its 7269 pipes and 113 registers.

The East Side Gallery: The longest open air gallery in the world formed by part of the Berlin Wall.

Memorial to the murdered jews of Europe: This memorial consists of the Field of Stelae designed by Peter Eisenman and the subterranean Information Centre. The admission is free of charge.

Tempelhof: The former airport Berlin-Tempelhof in the middle of the city known for the "allied airlift". The airfield is now a public park. You may visit the former airport buildings.

The Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam: You may visit the Sanssouci Palace and its verdant gardens, the summer residence of Frederic the Great located in the beautiful Town of Potsdam (about 40 minutes by Train from Berlin-central).
